Major events at Gowran Park include the Thystes and Kilkenny Racing Festival. It is both a
Flat and National Hunt Course. The first meeting, a programme of flat and steeplechases
races was held in 1914. Some of the famous horses that have graced its course are Arkle,
Danoli and Flying Bolt.
Transportation:
(The racecourse is approximately 1/2 of a mile outside Gowran village on the Dublin -
Waterford road. Gowran is 8 miles from Kilkenny and is 80 miles from Dublin. The closest
Railroad station is in Kilkenny.)
Last year the Kilkenny Racing Festival was set as one of the most exiting occasions in the
Irish racing calendar. First National Hunt racing and some of the finest Flat events will
be staged at the Gowran Park Racecourse. Last years Festival saw some of the top names in
Irish racing, Dorans Pride, Danoli, Generosa, Nick Dundee and Crystal Downs, cross the
line. This year, many of the leading racing stars will also meet at the Kilkenny track in
search of the £250,000 prize money. |
