Castle |
The Castle provide guided
tours, an art gallery, a cafe during the summer season, extensive pleasure grounds and a
well equipped outdoor play area for children. The ground floor which has an audio-visual
room is wheelchair accessible. The Castle also includes the Butler Art Gallery.

| Saint
Canice's Cathedral |
Completed in
1285, it is the second longest cathedral in Ireland and has a round tower in close
proximity which is from an even earlier date. Open all year round this is one of Irelands
most beautiful cathedrals. Rich and mediaeval carvings are on display by Rory and William
O Tunney. Also on display are carvings dating from the 13th century with wood and brass
adornments. The stained glass is of special interest.

Abbey |
| 12th
Century, lauded as the finest Cistercian monastic ruins in Ireland. A visitor centre,
accessible to the disabled, exhibition and guide service. Car park provided. |

| Rothe
House Museum |
| Built
in 1594, this merchants dwelling consists of three stone buildings divided by cobbled
courtyards. It is now the headquarters of the Kilkenny Archaeological Society, and also
houses the city and county museum. Features a fine period costume display, frequent
visiting exhibitions in addition to the building itself. |

Tholsel |
Built in 1761 by Alderman William
Colles, from the family who made Kilkenny Black Marble famous. It was restored in 1981
after it was destroyed by fire and now contains the Municipal archives. |

| Dunmore
Caves |
| 11 Km
from the Kilkenny city on the Castlecomer Road (not in Dunmore Village). Dunmore Cave is a
well developed show cave and consists of a series of chambers. An exhibition centre, guide
service, steps, cat-walks and lighting. Admission is by guided tour only. |

| Shee
Alms House |
| Founded
in 1582 by Sir Richard Shee to accommodate "12 poor persons in the city". The
building was restored and now houses the Tourist Information Centre. This is also the
starting point for city walking tours. |

the Castle, the Kilkenny Design Centre has a comprehensive stock of local and national
crafts on display and for sale. |
